3 convicted in racketeering conspiracy involving dental practice
Three individuals associated with a Pennsylvania dental practice were convicted March 9 in a racketeering conspiracy that defrauded Medicaid of more than $30 million, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Savani Group owners and brothers Bhaskar Savani, D.M.D., and Arun Savani were convicted of various charges related to the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, visa fraud, obstruction of justice, health care fraud, money laundering, tax fraud and wire fraud, the release stated. Dr. Savani was also convicted of conspiring to violate the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Their employee Aleksandra Radomiak was convicted of conspiring to violate the RICO law, conspiring to commit health care fraud, and health care fraud.
The defendants’ conspiracy involved filing numerous false H-1B visa applications, fraudulently billing health care benefit programs in the names of nontreating dentists, obstructing a grand jury investigation, laundering fraud proceeds through a complex web of financial transactions and other unlawful actions, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Public Affairs.
The defendants will be sentenced in July. The Savani brothers face a maximum sentence of more than 400 years in prison, along with fines. Ms. Radomiak faces up to 40 years’ imprisonment and fines.
